iQA Filtering Tips

iQAs are an extermely important part of iMIS, with many users getting more and more comfortable in their use. But have you ever wanted to search for more than one word in the same field of an IQA filter? How about being able to type in a word to search for when the filter only allows a drop down? Read on for some tips and tricks to help you with these and more.

Multiple Values

You can search for a combination of different words in an iQA filter just by surrounding them with speech marks, and separating them with a comma.

For example, you might search for contacts from a range of different cities. You would do this by typing the cities in as follows:

“Sydney”, “Melbourne”, “Brisbane”. One thing to be careful of is that Microsoft Products will change speech marks into “curly” speech marks (like my example has done) and these will not work if you just copy and paste.

Your filter would then look as follows:

Use a Word instead of a Drop-down

The majority of times, iQA filter drop downs are VERY handy. But there are certain fields where they can get in the way of finding your results quickly. For example, you might have a lot of committees in your database. This makes it hard to search for multiple committees where they have similar codes (i.e.: they all start with AA for example). Instead of using the Drop Down and selecting multiple values, just change the Comparison drop down to show “Starts With” and then enter AA in the value.

Date Filtering

Date filtering in iQAs can be difficult, but with some creative thinking, you can get around the restrictions of iMIS. For example, let’s say you want to show everyone that joined yesterday. The trouble is, it’s already 10 am and a couple of people have joined this morning. In this example, you would need to use the Within Days Comparison. You will need to set Within Days is equal to 1. The trouble is that this will include anything that occurred from the start of yesterday until the time you run this IQA today and into the future until the end of tomorrow. Sound confusing? Let’s restrict it by also saying AND Less Than Today. This means we will only see the joins from yesterday.
